Each year, Earth Overshoot Day marks the day on which we worldwide have used all the natural resources that our planet can regenerate within a year. For Germany, this day will fall on May 3rd in 2025 - one day later than in the previous year. In 2024 it was already May 2nd. While this is a small improvement, it still shows how urgently we need to act. Because while our planet's resources are limited, our ability to make a difference is not.
Sustainability at hutch&putch
At hutch&putch it is important to us to sell fair and sustainably produced products. We stand for longevity and recyclability and actively work against textile destruction. Our Scrunchies, for example, are only made from leftover fabric. You also have the opportunity to reduce the burden on the environment by sending your order using reusable packaging from Boomerang®.
We also pack all of our shipments plastic-free and rely on paid returns. Returns represent a major burden on our environment, which is why we try to avoid them in advance by using good product images and detailed descriptions. For reasons of sustainability, we have therefore decided not to cover the return shipping costs. An exception are of course faulty items, which you can of course return free of charge.

This is how we can make a difference together
The Global Footprint Network has proposed over 100 solutions that have the potential to postpone Earth Overshoot Day. Below you will find some measures that you can integrate into your everyday life (all numbers refer to global effects):
Use clothes for longer
When we double the lifespan of our clothing, we also halve the resources needed to produce it. Buying second-hand, repairing or upcycling clothes - it all makes a difference. So we could postpone Earth Overshoot Day worldwide by a full 5 days.
Reduce food waste
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, around 1.3 billion edible foods end up in trash worldwide every year. If we can cut this waste in half, we could push Earth Overshoot Day back by 13 days. Planned shopping, proper storage and creative use of leftovers help.
Promote plant-based nutrition
If we replaced half of our meat consumption worldwide with plant-based alternatives, we could postpone Earth Overshoot Day by 7 days - just by saving CO2 and agricultural land.
Reduce car journeys
If we reduce our car journeys worldwide by 50% by relying more on public transport, bicycles or our own feet, Earth Overshoot Day would be postponed by 13 days.
Every day counts. And every post too. Together we can ensure that we use our planet's resources more consciously - for a more sustainable future.
