Attention sewers: We'll show you how to quickly create a laptop bag made of muslin fabric. Without a fabric pattern and very simple. Also perfect for sewing beginners!

You need

  • Muslin fabric for bag and straps (quantity depends on the size of your laptop)
  • Volume of fleece (amount depends on the size of your laptop)
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • Pins/fabric clips
Step 1

Place your muslin fabric twice and cut out the fabric so that your laptop fits twice on the fabric. Add another curve at the top for the tab (see picture). The seam allowance is 3cm.

Step 2

Place your fabric on the volume fleece and cut the whole thing out. Then put the two pieces of fabric and the volume fleece together. Important: The order is volume fleece, fabric with the right side up, fabric with the right side down. Now you can sew the three parts together with a straight stitch. You leave a small opening at the bottom to turn it over.

Step 3

After you have sewn the volume of fleece and the fabric part together, you can trim the corners and the seam allowance a little. Be careful not to cut too close to the seam. Now you can turn your laptop bag over. Pin the opening shut. Then close the opening by sewing along the entire lower length with a straight stitch.

Step 4

Now take your laptop and see how high the bag has to be. Then pin the sides together and sew them closed again with a straight stitch. To achieve a nicer result, you can also sew along the upper curve again with a straight stitch.

Step 5

Now we just need the straps to close the bag. Alternatively, you can also attach a Velcro fastener or button as a closure. For the ribbons, cut out two pieces of fabric that are 4 cm wide and 30 cm long. Take a piece of fabric and fold the fabric inwards from both sides so that the two meet again in the middle and iron the whole thing in place. Now fold the two sides together and sew the open edge closed. Fold the ends of the ribbon over and sew them in place to neaten the ends.

Step 6

One of the ribbons goes on the lower part of the bag, the other ribbon goes on the upper part of the bag. Now pin about 5 cm of one ribbon in the middle of the bag. Pin the other ribbon to the upper part of the bag. Try out how the bag closes and see if you like the placement, re-pin if necessary. Now you can sew the straps on and your own muslin laptop bag is ready!
